Online Poker Versus Video Games

Why isn’t online poker more popular on video game consoles? We already have adventure games, action games and sports games on video game consoles (and have had them for many years), why not more emphasis on card games like poker?

Sure, there are a few poker games here and there, but they lack the punch and pizzazz of their online poker brethren. Oftentimes they’re half-hearted affairs with poor graphics, cheesy sounds and little personality.

One of the main obstacles keeping these games off of consoles is image. The big poker rooms of the world could easily produce console-specific poker games, but the stigma attached to them a gambling institutions often discourages companies like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo from allowing those types of games on their family-friendly machines.

It’s actually pretty silly, considering all the violent games that exist for these systems already. Are we honestly saying that violence is better for us that a simple game of cards? Than a simple wager? If we’re so worried about kids getting a hold of these gambling games, we should implement parental controls and ratings, like we have for every other game out there today. It’s about time I could play online poker on my console!
