Be Courageous!

Courage is defined as greatness of heart, spirit to meet danger, and boldness.

God commanded Joshua three times to be strong and have good courage and assured him of His constant presence if His commandments were obeyed. (Josh. 1:8-9) He promised that: “the eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.” (Deut. 33:27)

Knowing the Lord and obeying His commandments are the two main ingredients for the God kind of courage. El Shaddai, the All-Sufficient and Mighty One is on your side! He is Jehovah Nissi; the Lord, your Victory Banner. (Ex. 17:15) Isn’t that interesting? The victory banner is hoisted AFTER the battle! That means that the battle is already won! Christ’s defeat of Satan on the cross has made you more than a conqueror. (Rom. 8:37) Tell Him about the battles you’re facing and nestle underneath the everlasting arms while he destroys your enemy.

You are equipped with the full armor of God. Moses and Joshua were assured of God’s presence and guidance due to their obedience to the Law. Through Christ’s sacrifice you have the assurance of having already overcome because “greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (I John 4:4) You are not fighting a physical enemy but you’re up against evil spiritual forces. Although this sounds ominous, all you will need to do is STAND! Yes, stand, protected by the whole armor of God.

David’s only physical armor in his battle against Goliath was a slingshot! To the heavily armored giant he shouted: “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear; but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies.” David was the ONLY person who knew without a doubt that God would deliver Goliath into his hands! There had been a number of battles to overthrow the Philistines – to no avail. His brother ridiculed him, the giant jeered at him, and both armies stood by in total disbelief and amusement. Was David daunted by that? Did disbelief, shame and doubt enter his head? After all he wasn’t even old enough to be in the army! NO! He declared out loud to everyone that they “shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s!” Then he ran up to the man whom everyone feared, with only five smooth stones in his hand but fully armed with the anointing of the Lord of Hosts. There was no iota of doubt in him as he knew his God; His faithfulness, His previous exploits and, most of all, His intimate fellowship with him. (1 Samuel 17)

How about you? Are you being influenced by voices of doubt and unbelief? Or do you take courage in the strength and full protection of the Lord of Hosts? Don’t forget to put on His armor. It’s not heavy but it will help you to stand and be courageous.

You must first of all know the Truth of the Word of God. Only the Word can effect the salvation of your soul. Once assured of salvation, you know you have been made righteous by His blood. This is your main armor: the breastplate that protects your heart and most vulnerable parts. Now you’re equipped to share the gospel wherever you go and use your ever-increasing faith as a shield to ward off doubts and fears. Being born again by the Spirit of God protects your mind, keeping it focused on His Word and Divine Will. Lastly, pray constantly using the Word of God, not human wisdom, to come against the forces that attack you. They shall flee at the onslaught of this Sword of the Spirit! (Eph.: 6:10-18)

“Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.” (Josh. 1:9)

Accelerated Learning and Webucation

Webucation is a relatively new word, coined from the combination of the words web and education. Many people have previously referred to any form of education via the web as e-education or education (eed u k’ shun), however, the new term webucation just might catch on. Regardless of what you call it, accelerated learning and continuing education via the scope of the internet makes good sense for a great many people.

Why the need? People are finally starting to realize that their high school education or even 4-year college degree is simply not sufficient anymore to prepare them for beneficial employment in the fast-changing world in which we live. Employers are looking for specific skills and the ability to quickly adapt to changes in the workplace. Those persons who can meet these employer needs are challenged with the opportunity to grow with their company through both existing and coming tumultuous times. Those who do not embrace change, new technology and employer needs will simply be left behind. The need for continuing education and learning faster has never been more relevant or important than it is right now.

Obviously, the workplace in our economy is the motivator for the realization of these facts, but exactly who is actually driving this? It appears that it is the college-educated professional who is realizing her need for updated, improved or new skills relevant to their workplace experiences and requirements. Change is accelerating around us, creating both exciting opportunity and dire dread for many people. Those who embrace change and seek to fortify or improve upon their skill-sets through webucation will certainly experience less stress and greater fulfillment than those who simply watch as all of this change happens around them. The less-educated generally miss the fact that it is their lack of currently relevant, specific skills in a changing market than is hindering them.

Accelerated learning, or learning for profit as I prefer to call it, is the skill most often lacking in both the college educated and lesser educated individuals. The books, programs, courses, CD’s and other educational materials are out there for the taking, or learning in this case. Those persons who have assessed their current position and future prospects for continued employability, will typically familiarize themselves with these learning resources and will often select one or more in an effort to improve their skills. What is missing from the equation is the speed at which they learn this new material. The faster you can learn a new skill and apply it to your profession, the quicker you will begin to improve your earnings and financial position. Learning faster then, is not an option, but mandatory in order to get ahead.

All is not lost for persons without a college education, for there are many examples of highly intelligent people without degrees who are extremely successful. Do not, however, make the mistake of equating the lack of a formal degree with a lack of education. Most entrepreneurs have a great deal of education, usually achieved through self-motivation, perseverance, tenacity and a sense of drive and ambition. They make it a point to become experts in their field of endeavor. These self-taught individuals have a real sense of urgency and insatiably seek out the knowledge needed for their success.

Whether or not you have a college degree, a high school diploma or a self-education, the need for learning faster, that is, learning for profit, will become more evident as you proceed in life. Embrace webucation as an exciting concept and available resource that is growing quickly around you. There are no excuses for not learning. There are however, abundant means to get ahead, but you must act quickly and persevere in your education first.

The Genius Antonio Gaudi

Spain is known for many, many reasons and things around the globe. It’s wonderful cuisine and tapas hour. Bullfights, its language, flamenco music, rich history and of course it’s beautiful beaches. On one of this beautiful Mediterranean sits on of Spain’s pearls, Barcelona. This wonderful city served as an inspiration to one of the world’s true architect genius of this decade Antonio Gaudi.

He made of Barcelona his home, and while there designed many of the most beautiful and interesting structures that I have ever been in. All of them look so similar but so different from one another. By walking in to these structures you would know that they were all designed by the same person, but he was definitely inspired by something very different each time. For example the Casa Mila, or better known as La pedrera, as soon ad you walk into it you realize that he was sitting on the beach looking at the waves when he first started to think about this home. All sorts of waves and interesting shapes, build the walls of this interesting building. But what is most outstanding is that this creative architect did not use a ruler tracing this home, since there is no single straight line found the whole building. If you ever make it Barcelona make sure that you spend plenty of time and have a lot of patience to get to this tourist sites, since there are long lines to get there. Make sure that on your way up to parc Guell you do take your Acceletrim, since you will need all the energy going up those endless stairs that take you to the breathtaking view of the Mediterranean.

Without Faith, it is Impossible to Please God

Copyright 2005 Daniel N Brown

The Bible says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is God, and a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).

Therefore, expectation is the key to receiving from God when you pray. Jesus said in Mark 11:24, “Whatsoever things you desire when you pray, believe you receive them and you shall have them.”

Believe you receive when you pray! What good does it do to pray without expecting to receive? You might as well not pray at all, for faith is required to receiving what you desire.

Surely, God will do His part when we pray, but we must also do our part. Our part is simply to believe. So many people are busy asking God, but never really believing what they are praying for will come to pass. You can tell by the way they talk, or act.

Most people have been raised to not believe in a positive outcome concerning anything, and actually, taught to believe in a negative outcome. It’s a safety mechanism that says, “Don’t get your hopes up, so if it doesn’t work out, you won’t be disappointed.”

There’s no logic in that because you will be disappointed anyway. Now, it’s normal to feel disappointment. It’s what you do with the feelings of disappointment that’s important, but that’s another subject.

Believing in a positive outcome is vital to our success. If we could only believe that God has our best interest in mind and simply trust that everything will work out, we would see great results. Life would change in ways we’d never thought possible. But, most people just can’t believe things will workout for them. They look at past results and judge their future based on their past.

It’s a fact that the best predictor of future behavior, is past behavior. The good news is, that your behavior is a choice. Your past does not have to equal your future! Just change your expectations and have faith.

James 2:20 tells us that “Faith without works is dead,” which means “faith” is an action word. The word “faith” in Webster’s Dictionary is also translated as “belief.” So, believing is an action. And, it really doesn’t take any more effort to believe, than to not believe. It’s just an attitude.

It’s been said that if you truly believe in something (having faith that it will happen), then it really will happen. A lot of people don’t completely accept that, but the Bible is clear; what you believe is what you get. Jesus said in Matthew 9:29, “According to your faith, let it be done unto you.”

He didn’t say we would see the manifestation of our prayers immediately. We must keep believing and not waver, “For a man who wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord” (James 1:6-7).

Expectation is the key to receiving from God when you pray! If you are not going to expect God to act, then don’t pray at all. It’s ineffective and displeases Him when you don’t believe. Remember, Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God.”

God will do His part when you pray, but only if, you do your part, and that is simply to believe.

3 Keys to Managing Career Burnout

Copyright 2005 Ann Ronan

I recently gave a presentation on this topic at an Annual Conference of Human Resource Professionals. The room was full! So I thought the information might be timely for some of you.

What is burnout? What are the symptoms and causes? And if you’re experiencing it, what can you do?

The dictionary states that burnout is “exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration.” I put usually in italics because even when you love your work like I do, you can overdo and find yourself burned out.

Symptoms of burn out can be physical, behavioral and spiritual. Here are some signs that you’re heading for burn out:

* fatigue * muscle tension * headaches * insomnia * not keeping commitments * lack of effectiveness * irritability * anxiety * sense of emptiness-nothing left to give * lack of joy * not able to laugh

Causes of burnout can come from within ourselves or from our organizations. Some common causes are high expectations of ourselves, denial of our basic needs like food and sleep, poor time management skills, inability to set boundaries or to say no.

Organizational causes can be a culture of competitiveness, or one in which being constantly busy and overworked is prized with email and phone calls taken along on “vacations.” Insufficient training in new job roles or cramped, noisy environments can also contribute to burnout.

Here are 3 ways to manage burnout: change the stressful situation, reduce your vulnerability to stress and/or change the way you react to stress that cannot be changed:

1. Change the stressful situation if you can. If there are some high stress aspects of your job, see if you can rotate this task with others. Limit the number of hours you are under stress. Spend some time on career/life planning. Set your priorities and live by them.

2. You can reduce your vulnerability to stress by taking care of your physical self with good nutrition, exercise and enough sleep. Avoid nicotine and don’t overdo caffeine and alcohol. Surround yourself with supportive people, work with a coach who will listen to you deeply and help you to create a good balance of work and other aspects of your life.

3. Finally, change the way you react to stress. You can do this by modifying your self-talk and self-criticism. Learn techniques to calm yourself – a few deep breaths can bring you right back to a centered place, able to face whatever stress is in front of you. Become a self-care expert and have some fun.

Herbal Remedies for Better Prostate Gland Wellbeing

Medical professionals call an enlarged prostate gland benign prostate hyperplasia, or BPH. In simple terms this means that the prostate, a mass which wraps around the urethra and lies below the bladder, becomes bigger and this may impair or block urinary flow. As most males mature, their prostate gland enlarges and as a result may cause symptoms for example troubles with passing urine, weakened urinary stream, and also the holding of residual urine inside the bladder. Frequent visits to the lavatory during the night and even inflammation of the urinary pathway are other symptoms that can ensue due to an enlarged prostate gland.

Enlarged Prostate Gland – What Does that Mean? Males in their 60’s commonly have prostatic enlargement. Current Guidelines are that men in their fifties undergo exam by their personal doctors on an annual basis, even if no symptoms are observed, to help maintain better prostate wellness. Inability to pass water or blood whilst passing urine is a signal to look for immediate medical intervention.

Therapies for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia may include surgical operations and the use of pharmaceuticals. Nevertheless, erection problems and loss of bladder function can be experienced as a result of a surgical operation. An alpha blocker or drugs which reduce the prostate gland are often given to improve prostate gland health, but medications often lead to negative repercussions so what alternative options are suggested?

Prostate Gland Enlargment Problems? To Boost Your Brain, Move That Body!

If you really want to be at your absolute peak mentally, if you want to have a dynamic and well functioning brain, an essential component of your program must include regular physical exercise. Does that surprise you?

You might wonder why physical exercise is important if your main priority is to improve the functioning of your mind.

People often forget that the brain is actually part of the physical body, and it has very important physical needs. Your brain is nourished by the blood that comes in through your arteries, pumped by your heart. The blood carries the nutrients and oxygen that your brain cells need to burn for fuel.

Many scientific tests conducted on humans and animals have found that the brain benefits from physical exercise. Here are some of the ways exercise helps brain function:

Exercise improves the oxygenation of the blood.

Exercise helps lower blood pressure.

Exercise improves circulation of blood within the brain.

Physical activity strengthens the heart, which is the pump that keeps everything going.

Exercise reduces the levels of artery-clogging cholesterol.

Regular exercise can relieve depression.

Exercise counteracts the damaging effects of long-term stress on the brain.

It improves mood and self-esteem.

Exercise helps keep blood sugar level, which is very important, particularly for diabetics.

Exercise can boost the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine, which not only affect mood, but also help “lock in” memories when they form.

In animal studies, exercise appears to enhance the production of nerve growth factor, which helps the cells of the brain form new connections with each other.

Even though we know that exercise is good for us, not all of us are keen about exercising our bodies, just as not all of us are keen about exercising our brains. As children, most of us loved to do both. Yet as we grow older we often lose the urge to exercise ourselves, either mentally or physically.

When you watch movies or television programs, or glance at magazines and newspapers, you will see many images of young, strong, healthy people running joyfully in the park or happily working out at the gym.

If you aren’t currently actively exercising, you might assume that almost everyone else but you is busy running, swimming, biking, hiking, and lifting weights. The truth is that only a minority of adults exercises consistently.

It wasn’t always this way. Until quite recently most people had to work hard physically for many hours a day. Now many of us spend hours sitting at desks, sitting in cars, and of course, sitting watching television, or staring at a computer screen. The human body was not designed for excessive sitting and lying around. It was designed to move.

What sorts of exercises will help your brain as well as your body? To improve the oxegenating capacity of your heart and lungs, aerobic exercises are the best. This means the kind of exercise where you tax your body enough to raise your heart beat rate to a target level.

To gain aerobic benefits for your heart, lungs and circulatory system, aim to do the type of exercise that will push your heart rate up to 50 % faster than than your rate at rest. You don’t need to work up a sweat for your heart and lungs to benefit, and you don’t need to overdo it. Learn to keep up a steady pace while doing some form of aerobic exercise that still allows you to talk comfortably with a friend. To improve your aerobic capacity, exercise aerobically for about 20 minutes three or four times a week.

Swimming is a form of exercise that can greatly improve the oxygenating capacity of the heart and lungs, especially swimming under water. The amount of time you spend holding your breath while swimming under water should be built up gradually. Swimming under water should not be attempted if you have any form of heart or blood vessel disease unless you have clearance from your doctor.

Another type of exercise that many people find very beneficial for their brains is some form of mind-body exercise. People who practice mind-body exercises regularly report they experience reduced stress, increased calmness, and greater clarity of thinking. There are many schools and variations of mind-body exercises, including yoga, tai-chi, and chi-gung.

For many people, the most easily accessible and universally beneficial form of exercise is walking. You can walk alone or with others. You can walk indoors or outdoors. A walk can be part of a formal program, or an individual ramble through a favorite neighborhood or nature area.

Is it better to walk slowly or quickly? It’s up to you. Some people find that a brisk walk is a great stress reliever, while others get more peace from a very slow and meditative walk. Your mind will benefit more if you stay totally focussed in the moment, rather than using this time to continue dwelling on your problems.

How much should you exercise? Whatever you choose to do it is important that you continue to do it regularly. Exercising vigorously for three hours on the weekend will not make up for a sedentary lifestyle the rest of the week. It will also leave you exhausted and sore, and unwilling to exercise again.

It is therefore important to choose an activity that you really enjoy. Don’t pick anything too strenuous to begin with if you are not used to exercising. Aim to exercise at least four times a week or more, for at least half an hour at a time, up to an hour. If you are over forty, are out of shape, or have some medical condition, check with your doctor before undertaking an exercise program.

If you start a regular exercise program that you enjoy, your body will thank you, and your brain will thank you too! You’ll feel more energized both physically and mentally, and will be better able to handle life’s challenges.
