HSE to Tackle Pub Workers’ Safety

Unsurprisingly, the HSE has discovered that pub workers face a lot of physical as well as mental abuse from clientele at licensed pubs. In reaction, they have joined hands with safety inspectors in the Midlands area for a campaign to improve levels of security for pub employees while on the job.

The initiative will include meetings between these authorities, employers and licensees to brainstorm methods by which to make the workplace safer for employees. Some suggestions include revamping the layout of the pub, improving indoor lighting, and participation in schemes such as PubWatch. Simple steps such as these can go a long way in addressing the issue, which is part of every employer’s duty.

Ian Andrews, HSE project manager, remarked that the true extent of such cases is unknown as they go largely unreported. He did however state that no employee should have to fear abuse and ill-treatment from customers in the course of his/her job, and that employers and landlords can take a number of simple steps to combat the issue.

For anyone involved in human resources management, training and development, CIPD Courses will provide a firm foundation in all the areas of HR and employment law and give you a better understanding of how employment practice works, and to gain a broad grasp of employment law so you can set your own organisation’s policies and procedures in context.

The employees of pubs in the area would hope that within a short period, this campaign bears fruit, and their safety and security improves significantly and they can work in peace.
