Heads of schools have been offered a new online training resource to practically understand the issues relating to heath and safety in their institutions.
The tool called ‘HeadSafe’ has been developed for head teachers, school bursars, school governors and school managers so that they can deal with safety concerns in a more effective manner.
The creator of HeadSafe is Rob Castledine, Associate Director at Workplace Law Group and a Director of Three Spires Safety. Castledine is a safety expert with over 20 years of experience in the field (click health & safety consultants for info).
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has also had to regularly write off myths surrounding health and safety matters at educational institutions.
One of the latest myths to have circulated about school safety was that heath and safety rules hamper experimentation in classrooms. The HSE rubbished the claim with its Chairperson Judith Hackitt setting her hands alight safely to prove that practical training was a necessary part of school education, but it should be imparted in a safe manner.
While some are falsely led to believe the school tie was scrapped due to safety concerns, other blamed the rules for the missing adventure from adventure parks.
People also thought a teacher could be tried if a student was hurt, despite the HSE’s statement that not one teacher was personally sued in a compensation claim in the last few years. The HSE said teachers were only taken to court if the matter was very serious, and where they had failed to act responsibly by following the rules or using common sense.
